Wanda, born on May 13, 1931, in Mill Creek, Oklahoma, was called home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She lived a life rich in love, family, and unforgettable moments, leaving a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Wanda was the heart of her family. As a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, her love and warmth wrapped around her family like a comforting embrace.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Lee and Edna Darnell Butcher; her son Robert Thompson; her great-granddaughter Amelia Procell; and her siblings Ollie May, Junior, Billy, Bobby, and Jerry Butcher.
She is survived by her sons Richard Thompson and his wife Sandy, and Warren Thompson; her daughter Winona Lemoine and her husband Junior; her sister Patsy Thrift; along with her treasured grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Jennifer, Kristin, Kelli, Cameron, Shannon, Stephanie, and Stacy. Wanda adored her 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Wanda’s passions were as varied as her interests. She was an avid treasure hunter who loved digging for old bottles and relics, visiting garage sales and antique shops in search of hidden gems. She also loved to collect baseball cards and beanie babies with her grandchildren. Her family will forever remember her delicious cooking and baking; holidays will never be the same without Mems’ signature desserts. A lady with a playful spirit, Wanda enjoyed playing the slots, bingo, scratching off lotto tickets, playing dominos and cards with friends and family. Wanda had an infectious sense of humor, always ready with a joke and something sassy to say that could brighten any occasion and bring smiles to the faces of those around her.
Wanda was a dedicated hard worker, and over the years, she held many jobs, including owning a restaurant, working at Kroger, Academy, Dripping Springs High School, and Costco, always bringing a strong work ethic and sense of humor to each role.
Wanda leaves behind a legacy of family, love, laughter, and cherished memories. We take comfort in knowing that she has finally found the ultimate treasure, won the big bingo game, and scratched off the winning ticket. She is now at rest in the arms of Jesus as she watches over us with her loving smile.
