Valerie Beth Sanford graciously accepted her rightful place next to AuggieDoggie and SydneyPup, leash in hand and ready to run! She bravely and courageously fought colorectal cancer since March 29, 2023.
Valerie was the "funny" friend, always one to make others laugh and lighten the load a bit. She had a way of looking at things, including her own personal battles, with rose-tinted glasses. Many commented on her positive attitude and humorous outlook on life.
If you're reading this, you should know Valerie wrote her own obituary. Who else would specifically call out her dogs in her own obituary, while also speaking in 3rd person?
Okay, but seriously, my hope was always that in the course of my lifetime, whether we knew each other briefly, or for 40 plus years, that I made you smile more than frown...that you laughed when you wanted to cry...and that when you see a sunset, you'll think of me. I hope you choose love over hate, bravery when it seems impossible, and that you fight for yourself in every way possible.
Even if we no longer speak in the days leading up to my departure from this Earth, please know that I valued you and loved your part in my story, even if it didn't have a fairytale ending.
Valerie was preceded in death by her grandfather and grandmother, Calvin and Lovelene Taft; her Aunt, Teresa Miller; her mother, Paula Mears; and her fur babies, Cassey, Tuna, Sydney, and Auggie.
Next time you're at the doctor, if you're 45+ or have risk factors, please schedule your colonoscopy.
Until next time...much love. Oh, wait...there will be no next time…on this side of Heaven.
Much love, always. :-)
A celebration of life will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Erman Smith Funeral Home chapel.
