Thomas Whiteley Obituary

Thomas Gregory (Greg) Whiteley was born on February 9, 1955, in Beaumont, Texas, the firstborn son of Cecil and Jeane Whiteley.

Greg was soon joined by Tim Whiteley and the family moved to Longview, Texas during his school years where he graduated from Pine Tree High School. Greg proudly attended Lamar University earning a bachelor’s degree in Oceanography and quickly entered the oil industry. While working at Dowell in 1981, Greg met the love of his life, Barbara Pilgrim. After a short courtship, Greg and Barbara married on February 20, 1982, and moved to Lafayette, Louisiana where they made many lifelong friends. In May of 1986, Greg and Barbara welcomed their first child into this world, their son Thomas Parker Whiteley. After a couple of years, Greg was transferred to Houston, Texas where they welcomed their second child, their daughter Mary Margaret Whiteley. Greg’s family was his pride and joy. Whether building control-line airplanes with his son, attending dance recitals for his daughter, volunteering in his son’s Boy Scout troop, or buying countless boxes of Girl Scout cookies, he was present for every moment of their lives. Greg loved to play golf in his younger years, fish in both fresh and saltwater while they lived in Houston and especially spending time in the woods of East Texas. His lifelong passion for the outdoors led him to a very successful career in the oil and gas industry. Greg worked for many major oilfield service companies, including his own, in a career that spanned over 45 years where he was awarded over a dozen patents. Greg eventually retired from PPI Technologies in 2023 where he had made many friends. At that point, Greg had two grandchildren, Carson and Samantha Whiteley, that kept him very busy. In his later years, he was a self-taught fly fisherman who tied his own flies, he enjoyed shooting recurve archery while tuning his own bows, and he was always “messing around in the garage”. On March 6, 2026, Thomas Gregory Whiteley stepped forth into the Kingdom of Heaven from his own home surrounded by Barbara, Thomas and Mary Margaret.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first cousins, and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Whiteley, his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas & Whitney Whiteley, their children, Carson & Samantha, his daughter and her partner, Mary Whiteley & Robert Rafferty, his brother and sister-in-law, Tim & Dianne Whiteley, numerous nieces & nephews, and many other family and friends.

As we are all saddened by Greg’s passing, we rejoice that he has been made whole in the presence of the Lord. “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” - Romans 8:18. If we were to ask Greg how he’s doing now, I’m sure he would say to all of us “Marvelous, just Marvelous”.

We invite you to please join us as we celebrate the life of our beloved husband and father. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Ebenzer Cemetery in Pittsburg, with Bro. Clint Davis officiating.
