Reverend Ray Duane Turner, retired, 87, of Hughes Springs, passed away on February 22, 2024, in Mount Pleasant.
Duane was born on May 18, 1936, to Ray Bryan and Jessie Estelle (Thornton) Turner in Aspermont, Texas. He married Charlotte Winifred Thompson on June 1, 1956, at Enterprise Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Turner, his parents, and his sisters, Sue Howard, and Mary McMurtray.
He is survived by his four children, Candy Thompson and her husband, Ricky, Cherri Eichel, John Turner and his wife, Angela, and Theron Turner and his wife, Cindi; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren, siblings; Ronald Turner and his wife, Clel, Anne Walker and her husband, James, and Lissa Twitty and her husband, Eddie. Duane is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Duane was saved July 1947, and surrendered to the ministry during the summer of 1954. In 1956, he began his ministry which spanned 60 years with his last pastorate at Ebenezer Friendship Baptist Church, Pittsburg, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Duane’s name may be made to the Texas Baptist Home for Children (TBHC) and/or Jacksonville College.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 26, 2024 at Ebenezer Friendship Baptist Church in Pittsburg with Bro. Charles Johnson and Bro. Keith Graham officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers will John Turner, Ricky Thompson, Jordan Turner, Theron Turner, Nathan Turner, Ben Turner, Mike Turner and Tim Turner. There will be a visitation held from 2:00 P.M. till 4:00 P.M. Sunday February 25, 2024 at the Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg as well as an hour before the service on Monday at the church.
