Odis D. Marsh

Funeral services for Odis D. Marsh, 100, of Pittsburg, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Coleman & Craig Toney officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Marsh passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Southern Wind Manor, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Marsh was born February 1, 1926, in Troup, Texas, to David M. and Lucille Burton Marsh. He graduated from Carlisle High School and, the very next day, began his service in the United States Navy in 1944. He proudly served in the South Pacific during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946.

After returning home to East Texas, he met and married the love of his life, Frankie Pond Marsh. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and service to others.

Throughout his life, Odis excelled in many professions. He worked in plumbing, spent time in the booming oil fields, and always did whatever was necessary to provide for his family. In the 1950s, he moved to Pittsburg and began a long career as a welder at Lone Star Steel, where he worked until retirement.

Odis was a talented craftsman who could build, repair, or recreate almost anything. He enjoyed woodworking and painting decorative wooden pieces for family and friends. If Frankie or one of her friends admired something, Odis would often head to his workshop and make several of them himself. His skill, creativity, and willingness to help others became hallmarks of his life.

He never outgrew his love of Westerns and could often be found watching an episode of Gunsmoke or listening to the tunes of Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. Their music, stories, and values reflected the era he grew up in and brought him joy throughout his life.

A proud veteran and devoted member of the community, Odis was honored in 2025 by the Gordon Mattison American Legion Post 422 as the oldest living World War II veteran in Camp County. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg, where he served as an elder beginning in 1965.

Those who knew Odis will remember his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, steady faith, and the quiet strength that carried him through a century of life. Few people are blessed with 100 years, and even fewer leave behind such a legacy of love, service, and devotion to family.

He is survived by his son, Joe Marsh and wife Janice Walters Marsh of Pittsburg; granddaughter, Julie Marsh Baha and husband Nader of Frisco; and great-grandchildren, Ava Baha and Aydin Baha.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frankie Pond Marsh; his parents, David M. and Lucille Burton Marsh; brothers, Jerrill Marsh and Ben Marsh; and sisters, Mildred Rager, Ruth Broome, and Virginia Marsh.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
