Obituary

Norma Jean Nisbett Bates, 84, formerly of Pittsburg and Daingerfield, passed away on June 13, 2023, in Midlothian, Texas. A graveside service for Norma is planned for 2:00 PM Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg, with Tim Gibbs officiating.

Norma was born on September 19, 1938, to Jesse Clyde and Evelyn Faye (Trout) Nisbett at Dallas, Texas. She was an avid gardener, a member of the native plant society, enjoyed painting, and was a member of the Daingerfield Church of Christ for over 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Fred Bates; and son Joe Bates.

Norma is survived by son, Jeff Bates; daughters, Jean Cook and husband, Larry, and Jill Fender; grandchildren Tawnya King and husband, Jeffrey, Janette Loving, Rachel Fender, J.D. Ward and wife Becca, Tara Ottenbacher and husband, Luke; and 2 sisters, Winn Tate and Elaine Mann and husband, Gary.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, at Erman Smith Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, family has asked for donations to be made in Norma’s name to the Daingerfield Church of Christ children’s program.
