Mrs. Mattie Lucille Hess, age 92, of Pittsburg passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, in Richardson, Texas. Mattie Lucille Hess was born on Sept 6th, 1929 in Delaware, Arkansas to George Washington Bowman and Mattie Comfort Bowman. She was the last child born to the family which included sisters Bertha and Lee, and brothers Walter, James, Russell, and Doyle.
She grew up in and around Wildcat Holler for most of her early years until the family moved to southern California for work in the shipyards during the war. She graduated from Huntington Beach High School in the late ’40s and got a job working as a cashier for a department store and eventually a bank.
She met Lyle Hess In the early '50s and they got married on April 28th, 1952. They eventually moved to Pittsburg, TX, and started a church in 1961. Lyle and Lucille were married for 59 years until Lyle passed away in 2011. Lucille continued to serve as the Sr. Pastor of the church and has kept it running and serving her community and the many church families.
She was a Mother to many, loved by all who met her, ministered, and prayed continuously for her family, friends, and people of the world. She had a heart for God and a love for people. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her son, Lyle Floyd Hess, Jr.; daughter, Lola Canteli; grandchildren, Isabella M. Hess, Alexander Hess, Kenneth Karle; great-grandchildren, Garrett Karle and Cooper Karle; brother, Doyle Bowman.
She is preceded in death by husband Lyle Floyd Hess, Sr; parents, George Washington Bowman and Mattie Comfort Bowman; daughter, Dianna Lynn Hess; brothers, Walter Bowman, James Bowman, Russell Bowman; sisters, Bertha Parker, and Maggie Lee Blair.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg, TX with Yankton Hatten and Carol Collum officiating interment will follow to Macedonia Cemetery in Pittsburg, TX. There will be a visitation held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the funeral home.
