Memorial service for Lon Honzell, 68, of Pittsburg will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Willow Oak Baptist Church in Upshur County. Mr. Honzell passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, in a Pittsburg hospital. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home.
Lon was born March 4, 1956, in Pittsburg to Bishop Clements and Susie Littlefield Honzell. He always said his birthday was 3,4,5,6. He never said March 4, 1956. He always liked to joke about it. Lon worked at Lone Star Steel, cut hay, truck driver, and raised cattle. He also owned and operated Lon's overhead doors. He loved to fish and hunt.
Lon was number 14 of 14 children. He grew up with nieces and nephews who were older than he was. Lon had lived with MS for many many years. On Monday, he ran up the stairs to heaven.
Lon is survived by his sons, Richard Heath Honzell and wife, Kaycie of Tyler; their children, Kamyn Honzell and Kyndal Honzell; Jared Lon Honzell and wife, Eva of Pittsburg; their children, Elizabeth Honzell and Brayden Honzell; 11 siblings, Von of Wylie, TX, Martha Payton of Sulphur Springs, TX, Jeannette Bennett of Topeka, Kansas, James and Dixie Honzell of Granbury, Tx, Ann Sullivan of Longview, TX, Margaret DeMarino of Aurora, Colorado, Nelda Jo and Bill Gordan of Palestine, TX, Mary and Joe Cooke of Haltom City, TX, Barbara and Leon Fleshner of Gifford, Illinois, B.C. Honzell of Pittsburg TX, and Clen and Cindy Honzell of Pittsburg. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ruth Prim and brother, Wilbert Honzell.
Lon is also survived by caregiver and special friend Tina Hallonquist. Lon always said because of Tina he was able to live independently. The family is very grateful to her for her care and love.
He attended Pittsburg schools graduating in 1974. Lon rejoiced in knowing his Lord and Savior. He was a witness for God always encouraging others. He will be missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. Lon lived by Faith, Hope and Courage.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., in the Fellowship Hall of Willow Oak Baptist Church..
