Jimmy Randall Edwards was the fourth born child to C. E. and India Deason Edwards in Ruston, Louisiana. He was born on October 26,1942 and passed away in Mount Pleasant, Texas on May 20, 2024. Both of his parents are deceased.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years, Mary Russell Edwards; his daughter, Barbra Edwards Summers and husband, Scott of Birmingham, AL; his sons, Mark Randall Edwards of Leeds, AL; and Joseph Randall Edwards of Pittsburg, TX; his granddaughter, Rachel Anne Summers of Birmingham, AL; grandson, Gentry Cole Jeter and wife, Kate of Pittsburg, TX; Sean Freeman of Pittsburg, TX; Joseph Randall Edwards Jr. of Pittsburg, TX; and sister, Eileen Fant Lester of Jefferson, TX.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Eldred Edwards and his sister, Maedell Edwards Koonce; his beloved son, and best-friend, Jonathan Russell Jeter and Jesse Lee Jeter IV.
Jimmy’s early schooling was in the Hall School Community and later at Jefferson High School where he played football and basketball accomplishing All District and All State awards. He graduated from Jefferson High in 1961 and began working as well as attending college, at East Texas Baptist College. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with English Minor in 1967.
Jimmy loved the outdoors. Bass fishing and hunting were his favorite hobbies. In 1989, he qualified to fish “The Redman All American Bass Tournament” which was held on Lake Erie, in Buffalo, New York. This was one of his greatest fishing accomplishments and fondest memories. He was a member of the SMW Hunting Club on Caddo Lake where he and Mary would gather with friends each deer season to camp and hunt and make memories around the campfire.
Jimmy worked for ArkLa Gas his entire career. The majority of his time was in Jefferson, TX. In 1992, he was relocated to ArkLa Gas Pittsburg, TX office. In 1994, he took early retirement from Center Point Energy, formerly ArkLa Gas. He and Mary enjoyed the friends they met at Lake Bob Sandlin and living on the lake was a dream realized.
Jimmy was reliable, dependable, meticulous, and orderly, never budging on his principles, and always doing the ethical thing. Despite his serious reliability, he had a quirky side, often quoting poets like Sir Walter Scott one minute, and then lines from movies like “Tombstone" or “Patton”. He also loved sharing Bible verses about faith and trust in Jesus. His humor, quick wit, and deep faith made him the rock of the family.
The family wishes to thank Cypress Basin Hospice for the loving care they provided.
