Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Jennie JoAnn (Gigi) Rountree, 88, of Tyler, Texas will be held at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg, Texas. Interment will immediately follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg, Texas. Visitation will be held between 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. prior to the funeral at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg, Texas
Mrs. Rountree passed away peacefully on August 29, 2021 in her assisted living apartment in Tyler, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Rountree was born Jennie JoAnn Montalbano on November 10, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lena Montalbano. She was one of four children. Mrs. Rountree graduated from DeRidder High School in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Mrs. Rountree married Gaynor Ray Rountree on January 18, 1964 in Houston, Texas. They lived most of their married life in Pittsburg, Texas, where they raised their two sons, Mark and Craig, and were members of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was fiercely devoted to her family, and she cherished most being “Grandma Gi” to her four grandchildren.
Mrs. Rountree was pre-deceased by her husband, Gaynor Rountree; her two brothers, Paul Montalbano and John (Johnny) Montalbano; and, her sister, Catherine Navarra. She is survived by her sons Mark Rountree and his wife, Debra, of Dallas, TX and Craig Rountree of Whitehouse, TX. Mrs. Rountree is also survived by grandsons Steven Rountree and his wife, Parker, of New York City, Jonathan Rountree of Dallas, TX, Zachary Rountree of Lubbock, TX and Preston Rountree of Whitehouse, TX. She is also survived by brother-in-law Raymond Ryan and sister-in-law Linda Monts, both of Pittsburg, TX; sister-in-law Colleene Rountree of Andrews, TX; and numerous nephews and nieces.
