Homer L. “Sonny” Porter, Jr., 85, of Pittsburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, in a Mt. Pleasant hospital. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. A private family graveside will be held at a later date.
Mr. Porter was born April 24, 1937, in Camp County to Homer Lee Porter, Sr., and Bessie Maude Penick Porter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg.
He was a retired oil field worker whose work took him all over the world. He was a pioneer in the world of Offshore Drilling and spent many years as a Blow-out Prevention Specialist who then transitioned to Consulting in later years.
Mr. Porter is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Ann Porter Hobbs, and Julie Ann Porter Ramey; grandchildren, Autumn Brooks Moore Wiltse, Sabrina Renee Boykin Vaseleck, Bryan Christopher Boykin, Jeremy Holland Ramey, and Nathaniel Lee Ramey; ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Porter; daughter, Patricia Ann Porter Boykin; sisters, Juanita Cates, and Lynda Sanders.
Family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Mt. Pleasant Animal Services and Shelter.
