Mr. Harlin Dwight Nelson, age 79, of Leesburg, passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Leesburg. He was born March 6, 1946 to Clytus and Bessie Hallonquist Nelson in Leesburg, Texas.
Mr. Nelson served in the United States Army, after graduating from Pittsburg High School in 1965. He was retired from Earth Grains in Paris where he worked as a Machinist. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, he was a former member of Leesville Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for over 20 years before retiring to his childhood home. He enjoyed life in the country, taking care of the cows, the farm, driving his tractor, and helping his neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, Ida “Sue” Nelson; daughters, Steffanie Flournoy and Shawna Yates and husband John Paul; son, Floyd Nelson and wife Wendy; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Stokes and husband Justin, Kolton Yates, Ashley Flournoy, Amber Gomez and husband Gabriel, Autumn Flournoy, Tommy Flournoy, Molly Nelson, Katy Nelson, Charley Nelson; great-grandkids, Joseph Stokes, and Evelynn Gomez; and his brother, James Nelson.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents; son-in-law, Tommy Flournoy; and his siblings, Annie Barber, Geneva Houston, Arvil Nelson, Paul Nelson, William Nelson, and Donell Nelson.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Piney Grove Cemetery in Upshur County with Bro. Travis Chappell and Bro. Jeremy Wilson officiating. There will be a visitation held before the service beginning at 9:00 A.M. at the Piney Grove Baptist Church 4942 FM 2455 Leesburg, Texas 75451.
