Charles Winfred Rust was born December 27, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to James Oda Rust and Bertha Belle Clark Rust.
Mr. Rust was an active member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburg, TX. As the oldest son of seven children, Charles took on the primary responsibility at a very young age in helping to provide for his family with hard work and long hours on a farm in Titus County. Charles was a US Army Veteran and served his country with distinction from 1948 to 1950. He followed that service with time in the Army Reserves.
Mr. Rust worked for 35 years at Lone Star Steel in all areas of steel manufacturing. During that time Charles was also an owner in a custom hay bailing operation and won awards for his personal hay crop for quality. He started a second career at age 64 with Conroy Tractor in Mt. Pleasant, TX, as a skilled driver making deliveries over hundreds of miles in the surrounding counties. Charles retired from Conroy Tractor at age 82. Charles remained active at age 94, including mowing the Church property on a routine basis right up to the week before his passing on to Glory!
Mr. Rust is survived by his Son: David Rust and wife Linda of Pittsburg; Daughter: Pamela Smith and husband David of Mt. Pleasant; Grandchildren: Brandon and Shelby Rust, Chris Rust and Zack Thompson, Amber and Danny Holderness, Tiffany and Kyle Robertson; Great-grandchildren: Addison, Braylen, and Hadley Rust, Logan and Lankston Holderness, and Kinley Robertson; Brothers: Robert Rust and Luther Rust; Brother-in-law: Elbert Burnett and wife Ellen; Sister-in-law: Sharon Dinnis and husband Sam; Sister-in-law: Sue Rust; Sister-in-law: Sherry Rust; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Rust was preceded in death by his Wife Betty Ruth Rust of 60 years; Father: James Oda Rust; Mother: Bertha Bell Clark Rust; Sister: Imer D Newman; Brothers: Hazelwood Rust, Gerald Dean Rust, and Kenneth Harold Rust.
Pallbearers will be Chris Rust, Brandon Rust, Danny Holderness, Kyle Robertson, Tim Walker, and Lupe Herrera.
Funeral services will be officiated by Bro. Randy Stracener and will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 21, 2023, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg, with burial to follow at East New Hope Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburg.
