Alice Faye (Erwin) O'Briant was born in Linden, Texas, April 10,1939 to James Vernon “Bailey” Erwin and Margie Enola (Morris) Erwin. She loved her family: her two sisters, Jo Ruth Baxter and Jan Bartlett and her older brother, Duane “Cotton” Erwin.
As a teenager, she met and fell in love with George O'Briant. They were married March 15, 1956 in Lubbock, Texas. Their early years were spent farming in West Texas, where Alice’s focus was on being a young wife and mother.
While still in her 20s, she followed George into the ministry. After finishing preaching school, they courageously moved their family almost 2000 miles to do mission work on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia. Together, over the years, they faithfully served churches in Canada, Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.
Alice continued all her life to grow and become all she could be. Once her children were all in school, she attended college and received a degree in Early Childhood Education enabling her to work with preschool children, and later she studied at Sunset International Bible Institute preparing herself to do short term mission work in Eastern Europe.
Alice encouraged those around her to believe anything was possible. She helped her children believe they could accomplish almost anything, and while George was out serving, she faithfully held down the home front, supporting George's ministries and dreams.
Over time, besides all she did as a minister’s wife and mother, Alice served as a foster parent, traveled to faraway places on mission trips, was a care giver for the elderly, and was a dorm mom at a Christian home for unwed mothers in Lubbock, Texas.
In her declining years, she was gracious and never complained. Often, her last words to her caregivers each day was "thank you for all you do for me".
Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvie “George” O’Briant, her daughter, Thea Denise O’Briant, her parents, James Vernon and Margie (Morris) Erwin, brother Duane “Cotton” Erwin and his wife Pearl, her sister, Jo Ruth Baxter and her husband, Tommy, as well as her brother-in-law, Jimmy Bartlett.
Alice is survived by her sister, Janice Enola Bartlett, and by her four children and their spouses: Deborah “Debbie” (Michael) Banks, Sherrie (Mark) Bradley, James (Teresa) O’Briant, and Nancy (Duane) Wooten as well as 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Alice was dearly loved, and made a difference for people all around the world.
